In her talk Alenka Zupančič will discuss the encounter between psychoanalysis and philosophy at the points where the two seem to be the most incompatible. Sex (and psychoanalytic theory of sexuality) is something that philosophy usually doesn’t know what to do with. And ontology (as science of pure being) is something that psychoanalysis doesn’t know what to do with. The project of the book »What is sex?« is to take these two notions and cast them in the opposite camps. That is to say to take sex as the properly ontological question of psychoanalysis, and to pursue the implications that this kind of interrogation has for philosophy.
Alenka Zupančič ist Professorin für Philosophie und Psychoanalyse an der European Graduate School (EGS), an der University of Nova Gorica und am Institut für Philosophie an der Slovenska Akademija Znanosti in Umetnosti. Neben Slavoj Žižek und Mladen Dolar ist sie eine der bekanntesten Vertreterinnen der sogenannten »Laibacher Lacan-Schule«. Schwerpunkte ihrer Forschung bilden unter anderem das Verhältnis zwischen Sexualität und Ontologie, die lacanianische Psychoanalyse, der Begriff des Komischen, der deutsche Idealismus und Nietzsche. Zu ihren wichtigsten Veröffentlichungen zählen: Ethik des Realen: Kant, Lacan (Turia + Kant, 1995), The Shortest Shadow: Nietzsche’s Philosophy of the Two (MIT Press, 2003) und Der Geist der Komödie (Merve, 2014).
